A police officer with the Garu police command in the Upper East Region, Constable Peace Agbemefo, was found dead in her room on Monday afternoon with a gunshot wound.
The Garu police commander, ASP Alexander Tieku confirmed the death to Citi News but declined to comment on the matter adding that, the death had been reported to the Bawku divisional police commander, Chief Superintend Yao Tettegah.
There are reports that the death could have been a suicide but Superintend Tettegah, however, said the police could not confirm whether the death was accidental or a suicide.
He denied that the deceased shot herself to death but said the matter will be investigated in due course to ascertain the cause of death of the deceased.
Sources from the Garu police command indicated that Constable Peace Agbemefo committed suicide in her room in Garu after she returned from duty at GN bank.
The source further stated that after several attempts to hang herself and then cut herself failed, she resorted to an AK 47 rifle, which she had booked for duty, and shot herself.
There, however, was no suicide note.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited at the mortuary of the Bolgatanga regional hospital for autopsy.
