Three prime suspects in the gruesome murder of the late Captain Maxwell Mahama are being interrogated by the Police after 80 people were rounded up by the Military Tuesday.
The army commander was lynched and set on fire whilst jogging in the area yesterday dawn.
Reports say residents mistook him for an armed robber. Investigations so far have revealed that Captain Mahama may have shot and injured one person during the mob attack on him.
There are also speculations that his murder was planned to protest an operation to flush out illegal miners in Denkyira Obuasi in the Central region.
The acting Chief of Army Staff Major General William Azure Ayando who led a military delegation to the town told Starr News they are making headway so far with their investigations as they screen the 80 persons.
Meanwhile, the Denkyira Development Association which has raised an alarm over the use of brutalities by the military to find the killers of their colleague. According to the association, people who could help with information will be intimidated by the way the Military is going about things and may not be forthcoming with information.
Director of Public Affairs for the Ghana Armed Forces Colonel Aggrey Quarshie told Starr News the three key suspects have been handed over to the Police. He added that the security must be allowed to do its work.
“The security must be allowed to work so that the innocent ones will not be included, the screening will go on till the perpetrators are brought to book”.
