The Ashanti regional police command has arrested about 245 suspected criminals and sex workers in a swoop on Thursday.
The move, according to the police, was part of proactive way of policing in order to rid the region off criminal elements and make the region a safer place for law abiding citizens.
The police, in the early hours of Thursday, conducted the exercise simultaneously within the Ashanti central divisions including Asokwa division, Manhyia division, Ejisu division, and Suame division.
Addressing the media, Ashanti regional police commander COP Ken Yeboah said the exercise will be done continuously to make the region a safer place to live and conduct business.
COP Ken Yeboah noted that police has commenced investigations and screening of the suspects, and those found culpable would be prosecuted.
Meanwhile, five of the suspects were found with substance suspected to be Indian hemp and have been handed over to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit for further investigations.
Also, 35 female suspects believed to be sex workers have been handed over to the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit.
