The Tema Regional Police Command is on a manhunt for armed robbers who attacked a Burkinabe businessman, robbing him of 24 million CFA Francs and shooting him in the thigh.
Pares Iddrissa was robbed of his cash on Saturday May 20, with the robbers shooting him in the right thigh and absconding on motorbikes. The attackers had been waiting on the bikes in front of the victim’s office for several hours.
Mr Iddrissa is currently on admission at a health faciity in Tema. Saturday’s incident at Tema Community 4 is the second time in a fortnight that a similar attack took place after unknown gunmen on a motorbike shot and killed a worker who had been sent to deposit cash at the bank around the GTP roundabout.
Public Relations Officer for the Tema Regional Command, ASP Joseph Benefo Darkwah, tells Joy News police personnel have been deployed to the area while patrol activities have also been intensified.
“Our intelligence is also on the ground…gathering information and we are making frantic efforts to arrest the suspects,” he said.
Some residents who live close to the area where the incidents took place are yet to recover from the shock, however, police say there is no cause for alarm.
“We want to assure the community that the police are on top of the situation and our men are available. But we also plead with them to volunteer any information they have to assist us in our investigation,” the Tema police PRO said..
