The West Mamprusi District Police Commander DSP Bempah has called for the assistance of the general public in identifying persons in recent robbery that left one person dead in the area.
His call follows the rounding up of ten suspected robbers on Monday September 25, 2017 dawn at their residence in Wulugu.
The suspects, six of them are Fulani nomads, were paraded at the forecourt of the West Mamprusi District Police Headquarters the same day.
However, DSP Bempah reveals the police is a little challenged in prosecuting the suspects without public support: “We will not be able to prosecute them without evidence, so we need you to assist us”.
The police say more investigations will be carried out on the suspects while they wait for further information from the residents.
Meanwhile, the Bishanaayiri family of members of the late Yakubu Razak, victim of September 18, 2017 robbery incident in the area have petitioned the West Mamprusi District Chief Executive Abu Hassan to commence investigation into circumstances that led to his death.
“We petition you in your capacity as chairman of the District Security Committee (DISEC), to sanction an immediate investigation into the Walewale market robbery attack, which happened at about 7.00 pm on Monday, September 18 2017, and resulted in the unfortunate and untimely murder of our son, brother, and uncle, Yakubu Razak. We are demanding investigations into the incident, and for justice to be served and bring perpetrators of this dastardly act into book”.
The family partly blamed the police for their relative’s death: “If the Police Service did not sleep on their job and acted appropriately on the previous attacks, the recent incident which has orphaned Razak’s three children and made his two wives widows in such an untimely, unfair, grave and treacherous manner would not have happened”.
On the 12th of July 2017, there was an attack on a vehicle with women from the Bulbiya Market to Walewale at about 9.00 pm. They were manhandled and robbed off their monies and mobile phones.
In September, traders from Walewale who were travelling to Sankansi via the Walewale-Bolgatanga highway, got robbed between Gbimsi and Wulugu resulting in the death of one person.
Last year for instance, similar robbery incidents occurred in October and November involving Wemah Enterprise, dealers of building materials, located about 250 meters away from the District Police station between the hours of 3pm and 7pm.
