Youth in the Savelugu/Nanton municipality in the Northern Region have accepted and welcomed the Municipal Chief Executive Hajia Ayishetu Seidu as the substantive MCE after several failed attempts.
This followed consultations between a government delegation led by the Minister for State at the Presidency in charge of National Security, Bryan Acheampong, and aggrieved members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The groups together with MCE Hajia Ayishetu Seidu, the Northern Regional Minister Salifu Saeed, Member of Parliament for Savelugu Somed Gunu, Minister Bryan Acheampong and some party elders and executives visited the palace of Alhaji Alhassan Ibrahim Yije-Na.
There was a press statement, which was read by the party’s constituency Youth Organizer, Abubakar Sadiq Sulemana, to mark an end to the impasse between the municipality and the MCE.
The statement revealed a misconception by constituents owing to claims made by a supposed National Democratic Congress (NDC) group that they are faithfuls of the MCE.
“Our challenge with Hajia was that we were worried that she wasn’t well known to the elders and members of the party. This was because we believed it was only somebody from amongst us whom we knew that could best implement the visions of the President in the municipality.
“In recent days, we have had the opportunity to fully engage Hajia and are now convinced that she has what it takes to implement the president’s vision for the full benefit of the people of Savelugu,” the youth leader stated.
The team escorted the new MCE to her office, which has been without any official work for over one month.
Hajia Ayishetu Seidu was overwhelmingly endorsed by assembly members on May 13 but have since not made any official visit to the Assembly.
Her first attempt on Monday, June 14 was fiercely resisted by some protesters, who locked up the entrance to her office to prevent her entry.
A second attempt had to be under a tight security protection on June 15 and that has since been the routine of security until Wednesday when she was seen without the usual security.
In an acceptance remarks, the MCE disassociated herself from any faction and revealed she is for all constituents.
“I have no faction as far as Savelugu is concerned. I am for everybody and will work with all. To this effect, I urge all that claim they are my faithful to stop passing those comments because they are capable of causing us.”
Hajia Ayishetu Seidu becomes the first female to become the Municipal Chief Executive since the creation of the municipality.
