President Akufo-Addo has made a strong case for all public sector workers to participate in the SSNIT Biometric Verification.
Addressing workers at this year’s May Day rally at the Independence Square in Accra, President Akufo-Addo said the verification will help rid the public sector payroll of ghost names which is a drain on the State’s purse.
He said ghost names cleared so far will save the country more than four hundred and thirty-six million Ghana cedis.
The President also hinted of the introduction of a new payment system that will integrate the Ghana Interbank Payment System devoid of manual interventions by next month.
He outlined other initiatives to be rolled out to streamline the public sector payroll system and improve the pension.
He assured agitated Nurses and other public sector workers of the government’s willingness to address their needs by finding sustainable solutions to them.
On the issue of galamsey, President Akufo-Addo commended the media for their role in the fight against galamsey activities in the country.
President Akufo-Addo noted that, the fight against galamsey is not to put people out of business. But there will be an arrangement for small scale mining in a sustainable manner to safe guard the environment.
