Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, who is also the Member of Parliament for Akuapem South in the Eastern Region, Mr. O. B. Amoah, says Parliament will be forced to invite the chairperson of the Electoral Commission, considering the perceived rift between the EC boss and other commissioners.
According to him, some workers at the commission were not happy about the ‘autocratic attitude’ of the Chairperson, Mrs. Charlotte Osei.
Speaking to journalists after parliamentary sitting yesterday, Mr. Amoah said some officials at the commission claimed Mrs. Osei unilaterally takes decisions.
“There is growing concern that Mrs. Osei and two of her deputies, Amadu Sulley, (Deputy Chair, Operations,) and Mrs. Opoku Amankwaa (Deputy Chair in-charge of Finance and Administration,) are not on good terms,” he claimed.
“Sometimes when you talk to the officials at the EC they tell you that all is not well. They tell us in private that the chair does not consult them when taking decisions. There are a whole lot of issues, but the EC is an independent body and so you cannot just call them to ask them questions,” he said.
“I will also inform the Majority Leader in Parliament and if possible we will invite them to Parliament and discuss the matter. If there is any problem we will see how we can deal with it so that it doesn’t affect their work. If it affects their work then the entire country will be in danger
