Parliament has invited the Minister of Roads and Highways to Parliament to explain the circumstances that led to the closure for repairs of major bridges at Bupei and Yapei in the Northern Region.
A motion moved by the Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Tamale South Constituency, Haruna Iddrisu, highlighted the frustrations traders are going through as a result of the situation.
The motion was seconded by First Deputy Majority Whip Matthew Nyindam, who is also MP for Kpandai Constituency.
Most passengers and heavy-duty vehicles were almost stationary and the situation was worsened at the Yeji ferry station, where ferries available could not contain the numbers.
The Minority Leader said the closure of the bridge is affecting business especially ahead of Christmas, a period of brisk business.
www.3news.com gathers the repair works will be completed within four weeks.
More ferries are also expected to begin operation at the Yeji station to help in the transport of persons and goods.
