The third edition of the worm-free child project came off last week at the Dr. Bannerman park in Korle Gonno, Accra treating children to good food, music and play.
The health exercise that provides medical assistance and moral support to deprived communities with high incidence of worm infestation was a sight to behold as the children gathered together to partake in the exercise.
It was all fun as a team of medical professionals administered drugs including dewormers, multivitamins and food supplements to them.
The climax of the event was when the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South constituency, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije graced the occasion to mark his 62nd birthday.
The children couldn’t hide their excitement on seeing him as he reiterated the need for them to maintain a healthy lifestyle and clean environment.
The MP also pledged full support for the project, congratulating the team of health experts and volunteers for dedicating their time and resources into making the project a stellar success.
The event was not without some good music and side attractions such as the bouncy castle, with lots of goodies, clothes, shoes and toys from sponsors.
It was supported by Yumvita, HFC Bank, East Cantonments Pharmacy, Amponsah Effah Pharmaceutical, ORO Insecticide spray, Gold Coast Matcom and Newells Catering Services.
Others include Verna Mineral Water, Kids Place Playground, Jekora Ventures, Lynch Medical Services, Diamond Lions Club, Blue Skies and Sankofa foods, with Sunny FM, Pent TV, Praise TV and Adom TV as media partners.
The worm-free child project is a health initiative of “The Cradle to Crayon Show” on Sunny FM which addresses health and fertility issues associated with women and children.
The project which was launched in August 2016 aims at curbing worm infestation in children, reducing anaemia, increasing children’s resistance to infections and promoting healthy living in the average Ghanaian child.
