Editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Guide, Abdul-Malik Kweku Baako, has described the Northern Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Mr Bugri Naabu and Ms Otiko Djaba, Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection as “walking disasters” in the party.
Mr Naabu and Ms Djaba have been fighting each other following a meeting Ms Djaba had with some women’s group in the Northern Region which was violently disrupted by Mr Naabu. The minister in response accused Mr Naabu of taking cows and goats as bribe to promise people jobs in the Akufo-Addo government.
Reacting to the accusation that he is a bribe taker, Mr Naabu also accused Ms Djaba of having a hand in the murder the late Adams Mahama, the former Upper East regional chairman of the party.
Reacting to the feud between the two politicians on Kokrokoo on Accra-based Peace FM on Wednesday, 10 May, Mr Baako said Mr Naabu should be invited by the police to assist in the murder investigation of Mr Mahama.
He told show host Kwame Sefa Kayi: “As for the minister, she must be compelled, challenged and confronted to provide something of evidential value to back up her allegation that the regional chairman takes cows and goats in order to influence appointments of MMDCEs. Nothing short of that will help the situation,” adding: “So when you add these two personalities and what they have said and the effect, what else can you say but to say these are walking disasters at such an early stage of the Akufo-Addo administration.”
The veteran journalist noted that the NPP must punish Mr Naabu for his conduct which has tarnished the party’s image.
“As for Bugri, he is not a minister that is why I’m saying the police should invite him over his criminal allegation against the minister. But the party structures have some powers to discipline him, to sanction him. What he is doing brings the party’s name or image into disrepute and they have ways to deal with that in the party’s constitution. It is too early in the day for the NPP government. These are the things you cure quickly. You cut off the head of the snake if it is troubling you.”
Meanwhile, the NPP leadership are expected to meet on Wednesday to resolve the impasse between the two politicians.
