In line with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s one-district-one-factory policy, the defunct Saltpond Ceramics Company is being revived as Saltpond Packaging Company to get the once vibrant town back on its feet.
Although the ceramics company is still defunct, its subsidiary, the packaging division, has been fully resurrected to gradually help the entire company bounce back.
During an inspectional tour of the company by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Mfantseman, Mr. Ekow Quansah Hayford, at the weekend, he disclosed that the NPP government was interested in developing local content to save it from investing huge sums of money in importation, hence the premium on the one-district-one-factory policy to enable the country generate more income.
He disclosed that MPs have been tasked to solicit for support for the realisation and success of the policy hence his commitment to ensure that the once vibrant company bounces back to complement government’s effort.
The MP gave the assurance that he will personally write to companies such as Unilever, Nestle and other brewery companies in need of packaging services to liaise with the company to enable it stand on its feet.
“Now everything is working out smoothly all the company needs is a ready market. By the end of this year, the company will have an additional plant which will help expand operations of the company for more hands to be employed,” he stated.
The Company Administrator, Mr. Gadufia Pascal, explained that the company was into manufacturing of carton boxes of any kind for packaging of all sort of foodstuff such as eggs, yams, drinks and soaps among others.
He mentioned unreliable source of electricity which makes water generation also unreliable and non-availability of internet to enable them market their product online as some of the major problems confronting the company.
Mr. Pascal added that the company currently has 57 staff but need more special-skilled personnel to operate their machines to enable them run effectively.
