Senior journalist, Kweku Baako has described as “soft” a punitive measure meted out to two senior members of the governing NPP for public misconduct.
According to him, the Gender Minister, Otiko Afisa Djaba and Northern NPP Regional Chairman Daniel Bugri Naabu should have been suspended after they openly traded words over misunderstanding in the appointments of District Chief Executives.
“I would have preferred more severe sanctions. If you go into their constitution, any person who brings the party’s image into disrepute must be sent through certain disciplinary proceedings,” he told Samson Lardy Anyenini on Joy FM/MultiTV’s news analysis programme Newsfile Saturday.
The Minister accused Mr Naabu of receiving goats, sheep, cows and other things from people with the promise of giving them jobs after her meeting with some women in the Region was disreputed.
A displeased Naabu told some media houses Otiko Djaba and the Upper East Regional Minister, Rockson Bukari had knowledge about the death of late NPP Upper East Regional Chairman, Adams Mahama in 2015.
At the NPP’s National Council Meeting on Wednesday, the two signed a bond not to repeat their behavior and were asked to apologise for bringing the party’s name into disrepute.
But the Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper said the party should have considered a suspension of the two which is more in conformity with its constitution.
