Some residents in the North Gonja District of the Northern region are not enthused with the nomination of one Mr. Red Bawa as District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area.
They have expressed their disappointment in the president’s choice indicating that though it is his constitutional rights to determine who he chooses to become the DCE for the area, they will accept him with reservations and a heavy heart.
At an emergency press conference to table their concerns, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters in Lingbinsi and Mankarigu wondered why the president will prefer Red Bawa over the two-time party’s parliamentary candidate for the Daboya constituency Samuel Tika Yeyu for the post.
They described the failed DCE hopeful as hardworking having contributed to the fortunes of the party in the area which translated to the appreciation of votes for the NPP in the just ended elections.
“Mr. President, what crime have we committed to deserve this humiliating disappointment after having contributed 76.33% of the party’s total valid votes in the constituency? Please when did hard work and efficiency become a crime in this country” Spokesperson of the NPP loyalist in the Lingbinsi and Manakrigu areas, Mr Haruna Shaibu queried.
According to him, they have resolved to accept and respect the decision of the President but with ‘heavy hearts’.
The group however appealed to the President to consider compensating Samuel Tika with an appointment at the regional or national level, either into Youth Employment Agency, NHIS District Manager, Planting for Food and Jobs District Coordinator, School Feeding Director and MASLOC District Coordinator.
They threatened to facilitate the rejection of the president’s nominee if this is not done prior to the confirmation by assembly members.
