The Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed, has called for permanent ceasefire of the hostilities that has characterized the nomination of some Municipal and District Chief Executives for some 25 district assemblies in the region.
Some angry youth of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) following the release of some MMDCEs, went on rampage and destroyed party paraphernalia in protest.
Savelugu and Sagnarigu districts were some of the flash-points where it took police intervention to halt the chaos.
The Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed, today (Thursday), visited some of the hotspots and called for calm. He urged the rampaging youth to be law abiding and follow due process to express their anger.
He later paid a courtesy call on the Regent of Tolon, Retired Major Sulemana Abubakari, who rejected the President’s nominee for the area, Hajia Amama Shaibu.
He appealed to the Tolon Regent to accept the President’s nominee and support her get the assembly members’ confirmation. Salifu Saeed said it is the collective responsibility of traditional rulers and government to develop the nation.
He appreciated the role of Retired Major Sulemana Abubakari in promoting peace and unity in the Dagbon state. The Regional minister promised to whip all MMDCEs in the region in line with the government’s positive change agenda.
He reassured the people of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo administration’s determination to fulfill its 2016 campaign manifesto.
He is optimistic the electorate will retain the NPP in power at the 2020 polls, based on its solid performance within the first term.
