Information gathered has indicated that the police in the Northern Region have zoomed into action against a cartel of young men and women who have been engaging in acts of blackmailing important personalities in the country.
This group of people, based in the Northern Regional Capital, has accomplices in Accra who help them in their dastardly acts against prominent persons including Ministers of State, Deputy Ministers, and Chief Executive Officers among others.
Sources revealed that, the police in following up on a reported activities of the group, retrieved sophisticated equipments including video recorder, camera, and other equipments used in blackmailing their victims.
According to the information, one Rafya the leader of the group was circulating some pictures across to some of her victims who they succeeded in luring under threat and demanding huge sums of money from them or risk spreading the said picture on social media.
But, according checks, the Northern Regional Minister whose name the said Rafya is purportedly trying to blackmail, since she is using the Minister as bait to extort huge sums of money, caused the police raid on the said lady where those items were retrieved.
Meanwhile, the parents of the said Rafya, who could not believe their daughter is involved in such a criminal activity within the Region, is pleading with the Regional Minister to have pity on the lady.
It has also emerged that the said gang has been blackmailing people after threatening them at gun and knife point and forcing them to strip naked whiles they record and take photographs of them.
Reportedly, the gang comprises of the said Rafya and other five friends. The Prime suspect in the issue has been held by police, according to sources.
Hundreds of video clips and photographs revealed prominent figures in society were discovered on laptops and cameras retrieved from the said lady.
