No Arrest In the Murder of Sayeegu Chief, Three Others

A day after the gruesome murder of the chief of Sayeegu, Woobjung Kamoutan and three others, the police is yet to effect any arrest.

The four persons lost their lives in what the police termed a “field exercise” by the feuding Bimoba factions in the Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo District in the Northern region.

Three of the deceased are members of the Sayeegu community with the fourth being a member of the Sambligu community. The two communities opened fire on each other on a farmland in the early hours of Sunday April 30, 2017.

The District Police Commander Stephen Delaporte said the assailants fled the communities after killing the chief who has been their target since last year.

“The groups fled the area after their field exercise so we haven’t made any arrest yet”.

He assured that security has been beefed up in the area.

The Chief of Sayeegu escaped death narrowly on April 24, 2016 when a similar attack was launched at his palace. He was whisked away by the police.

However, his cousin Biplopak Single was shot dead with two others.

A military cum police squad has secured the two communities to forestall any reprisal.

The four bodies are yet to be given to family members for burial.
