Jonathan Teye Doku, the newly confirmed District Chief Executive officer of the Ningo-Prampram District has promised to unite the Ningo and Prampram Traditional areas.
Mr Doku who until his confirmation was an elected assembly member for the Kugortsitsa electoral area in the Ningo traditional area, received “yes” votes from all 32 members.
Prior to the voting, he stated that, “I give you my word that if you give me the nod, I will ensure the unification of Ningo and Prampram.”
Since the creation of the Assembly in 2012, there has been uneasy calm between the two traditional areas as the people of Ningo refused to pay tolls, rates and fees to the Assembly in protestation of the citing of the district head at Prampram even though all the chief executive officers of NIPDA hailed from their area.
Some few days to the confirmation, some youth of Prampram protested against the nomination of Mr Doku as they accused him of allegedly instigating the refusal of the Ningo people to pay tolls to the Assembly.
An allegation Mr Doku has refused to comment on.
In his acceptance speech, promised to operate an open door policy and eschew all partisan tendencies in a bid to develop the area.
He also stated that being a former member of the Assembly, he was aware of the challenges it faced and would do well to address all developmental issues.
Mr Ishmael Ashitey, Greater Accra Regional Minister, charged the DCE to not to disappoint residents, reminding him that “you are working in a very dangerous area, therefore work diligently devoid of political favours”.
Mr Ashitey appealed to assembly members, the Member of Parliament and other stakeholders to cooperate with the DCE and report any misunderstanding to the Regional Coordinating Council.
Mr Sam George Nartey, MP for Ningo-Prampram, congratulated the DCE and commended Assembly Members for not being partisan adding that after the general elections, what the district needed was unity to develop the area.
