But for the intervention of the police, residents of Sowutuom in Accra would have vented their spleen at a Nigerian said to have stabbed a man to death.
It is unclear what may have caused the incident, which occurred last Thursday, but police say investigations have already been launched into it.
As a result, police presence has been very heavy in the Accra suburb.
Speaking on TV3’s [email protected] on Saturday, a Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service said the situation is under control.
ASP Kwabena Darko said the suspect has been moved out of Sowutuom for security reasons.
He said the police want to get to the bottom of the murder, asking residents of Sowutuom not to take the law into their own hands.
ASP Darko says his men will be on the ground until calm has been completely restored.
