The Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), has restored power to some communities in the Tamale metropolis who were cut off due to an attack on its officials.
NEDCO had warned that residents would be in total darkness for a very longtime after they were accused of constantly beating up officials from the Volta River Authority (VRA) and NEDCo.
For instance, some angry residents of Dohanayili, a suburb of Tamale, in the Northern Region reportedly attacked personnel from the VRA and NEDCo for unknown reason.
The actions angered the management of NEDCO who in turn plunged the entire Dohanayili area including communities like Fuo, Kukuo, Kobilmagu, Kpembeigu, Gumani, Kanville and Kanville-Tunayili into total darkness by cutting them off from the national grid.
But after a meeting between management of NEDCo and VRA, and some opinion leaders in the area, power was restored.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the VRA/NEDCO, Alhassan Ababa, told Onua FM’s Ghana Dadwene on Monday that they are hopeful the residents will not attack their workers again due to the caliber of people whom they met.
He said the delegation from these towns were optimistic they were going to ensure such attacks would not occur again, hence the decision to restore power.
