GN Foundation, a non-governmental organisation of Groupe Nduom (GN), in collaboration with Safe Water Project, an NGO, yesterday opened a clean and safe water facility for the people of Etwereso in the Eastern Region.
The project was commissioned by President and Chairman of Groupe Nduom, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, with support from the Country Director of Safe Water Ghana, Mr. Charles Nimako.
Indigenes of the town defied their routine vocation to attend the ceremony.
The event, therefore, was attended by farmers, artisans, petty traders and many others.
Students and even school children cancelled classes to be part of the history-making.
Chiefs and traditional authorities from the adjoining communities were not left out of the historic event.
The occasion also saw the commissioning of the GN Bank branch at Etwereso.
For many of the residents, the occasion was really historical in many respects.
“This is the first time we are going to take proper and safe water,” some residents, who spoke to Weekend Today shortly after the commissioning, cheerfully expressed.
Many of the residents who could not hide their excitement also hailed tons of praises on Dr. Nduom for making life better for them.
Etwereso is among the many communities with no potable water.
They have lived with streams and other untreated sources of water
Earlier, Dr. Nduom, while addressing the chiefs and people of the town, hinted that Groupe Nduom was committed to giving the people of Etwereso the opportunity to benefit from their own John Obiri Yeboah, who successfully lobbied for a water project and a bank for the people in the area.
He lauded the 2016 parliamentary aspirant of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) for Ofoase Ayirebi, John Obiri Yeboah, for impacting positively on his people.
This is the third project Groupe Nduom has commissioned this year in collaboration with Safe Water Network, Ghanaian, a non-governmental organisation, operating in Ghana and India with a total coast of US$300 million.
