Members of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) have tendered in their resignation to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Led by Chairman Professor Kwesi Botchwey, the members were at the Flagstaff House on Tuesday to hand in their resignation.
They also presented a document on Ghana’s long-term national development plan to the president. The document has been tagged ‘Black Star Rising’ and it contains the 40-year development plan drafted for the country.
Announcing their collective resignation, Professor Botchwey said they decided to do that in order to allow the President give a new direction to the Commission.
President Akufo-Addo welcomed the decision of the Commission and stated that their collective resignation brings to mind the principle of ‘New King, New Law’.
The President also congratulated the Commission and pledged that their work will be reviewed and adopted for the sake of national development.
The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) was established under Articles 86 and 87 of the 1992 Constitution as part of the Executive.
The National Development Planning Commission Act, 1994, Act 479, and the National Development Planning (System) Act, 1994, Act 480, provides the core legal framework for the establishment of the Commission and the performance of its functions.
