National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for Wassa East, Isaac Adjei Mensah, has accused the District Chief Executive nominee, Wilson Arthur, of masterminding an attack on him leading to the destruction of his vehicle.
Mr Arthur on Monday failed to secure the two-thirds vote required to assume the chief executive position, something that prompted the youth believed to be his supporters to launch an attack on the MP.
One of the side glasses of his Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle was smashed in the process.
The angry youth claimed the MP manipulated the assembly members to reject the confirmation of Mr Arthur in Monday’s vote in which he secured only 19 of the 30 votes cast.
Commenting on the issue on Asem Yi Dzi Ka, a political talk show on Takoradi-based Connect FM Monday, the MP expressed surprised that Mr Arthur looked on while his supporters attacked him without provocation whatsoever.
He said he expected the nominee to have calmed tempers of his supporters when he was being attacked, especially so when it was Mr Arthur who invited him to the confirmation election exercise.
According to the MP, the DCE nominee’s action clearly shows that he incited the youth to attack him.
Meanwhile all attempts to get Mr Athur to comment on the matter have proved futile.
