The Central Regional chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Allotey Jacobs has described as improbable calls for a complete overhaul of the party by former president Jerry John Rawlings.
According to him, the earlier Mr. Rawlings accepts that the party he founded is beyond his grip the better for him.
Addressing party folks Sunday June 4, 2017 in the Upper West regional capital Wa to commemorate the 38th anniversary of the June 4th uprising, Rawlings attributed the NDC’s humiliating defeat to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to unbridled “greed and corruption.”
In view of this, he advocated for new leadership with solid integrity to lead the party back to power, saying: “If we cannot get our claws off and allow for fresh leadership to emerge then we shall sink further.”
Speaking in an interview with Adom FM, Mr. Jacobs vowed that Mr. Rawlings cannot take over the party, saying nonetheless, he can play a sensitive role to make sure the party is united.
“The party has outgrown him Rawlings. That is one fact he should face. The reality should dawn on him that the National Democratic Congress he formed in 1991/92 is now bigger than himself and there are different shades of opinions – those with capitalist minded, liberalist minded and socialist minded are all in the party.
“So for him to call for a change, it is not like before where when he was president whatever he says is law,” said Mr. Jacobs.
