The Director of Public Relations for the Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC), Nana Yaa Jantuah has resigned following recent allegations of financial misappropriation by the leadership of the utilities regulator.
Her resignation comes a day after she and the Executive Secretary of the PURC, Samuel Sarpong were invited by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) for interrogations into the allegations.
Both management members were detained with reports rife that their passports were seized to prevent them from traveling out of the country.
Her letter of resignation which was addressed to the Executive Director of the PURC, Samuel Sarpong indicated that her resignation would take effect from November 2017.
It said in part that “I wish to resign from the Commission effective 11th November 2017. Prior to my resignation, I wish to take all outstanding leave which is accrued to me as a staff of the Commission starting from 4th of June 2017.”
No reason was given for the resignation but there are speculations that it is due to the ongoing investigations by the BNI into financial malfeasance.
The PURC workers in their petition to the Chief of Staff over the financial brouhaha of the commission, called for the Executive Secretary, Mr. Sarpong to step aside whiles investigations continue indicating that the investigation is ‘affecting his delivery at work.’
