From one district-one factory, one village-one dam, to one constituency-one million dollars, Nana Addo is now promising one student-one chocolate bar per day…
President Nana Akufo-Addo appears to have fallen in great love with promises and policies that are based on ‘one this for one that’.
Starting with the one district-one factory policy ahead of the 2016 elections, Nana Addo has dished out numerous other promises of such nature, including the one village-one dam policy, one constituency-one million dollars and now, the one student-one chocolate bar per day promise.

According to the President, his government will soon roll out a programme that will see every school going child from basic to high school level enjoy free chocolate every day in order to boost local consumption of cocoa products.
President Nana Addo made this announcement while speaking at the 2017 World Cocoa Day in Kumasi which coincided with the 70th anniversary of the Ghana Cocoa Board.
“It is for this reason that the Ministry of Agriculture through COCOBOD, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection through the school feeding programme, and the Ministry of Education through the Ghana Education Service, are to ensure the sustained provision of cocoa beverages and chocolates to school children from primary school to secondary level, Nana Addo said.
“…[our] target is to provide every Ghanaian student with a bar of chocolate or cocoa beverage each day whilst in school,” he added.
Continuing, the President said that this “has been given the needed impetus by some manufacturing companies who have agreed to support the programme.”

The Ghana Cocoa Board had earlier appealed to Ghanaians to patronize locally produced cocoa products instead of foreign ones. Speaking at a media launch of the 2017 Cocoa Day in Kumasi last week, Senior Public Affairs Director at COCOBOD, Noah Kwasi Amenyah, said his outfit is hoping that cocoa drinks will be served at official functions as a way of encouraging patronage of cocoa made products.
According to Mr. Amenya, Cocobod expects the school feeding programme to adopt it and ensure that school children take cocoa products. He also encouraged all, both the young and old to consume cocoa in order to tap into its enormous health benefits.
Meanwhile, many of Nana Addo’s promises has already satrted seeing the light of the day. Ghanaians are hoping that he will succeed in changing the living standards of the ordinary Ghanaian by keeping his words to the letter.
