The Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) has donated movable assets confiscated from drug baron Nayele Ametefe to mark World Narcotics Day which falls on June 26.
Most of the items in the convict’s Night Angels shop located at Dzorwulu motorway extension were presented to three rehabilitation centers.
The beneficiary institutions are: House of St Francis Rehabilitation Center, Ashaiman; Drug and Alcohol Free Awareness and Rehabilitation Centre (DAFAREC), Medie; and Addictive Diseases Unit, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, TV3’s Catherine Frimpomaa reports.
Some of the items costing as high as GHC 4000 included air conditioners, electrical gadgets, furniture and furnishings.
NACOB was unable to touch the building because Nayele rented it. However, other landed properties like her house at East Legon and those in her hometown are still under litigation.
Michael Addo, Deputy Executive Secretary at NACOB who made the presentation explained, “what we do is that, if you are arrested on drug offences you are not allowed to enjoy the proceeds of the drug trade”.
Nayele Ametefe was arrested back in November 2014 at the Heathrow airport for smuggling 12 kilogrammes of cocaine which were found in her handbag.
She pleaded guilty to carrying 12 kilos of cocaine to the United Kingdom and was sentenced to eight years, eight months’ imprisonment in January 2015.
She was sentenced on her own plea by the Isleworth Crown Court in London.
