Families of four girls allegedly defiled at gunpoint at Nwaring in the Sagnerigu municipality of the Northern region are demanding justice.
According to the girls aged between 13 and 15, they were approached by the suspect on March 16, 2018 when they went to fetch firewood in the bush.
The suspect allegedly forced them to strip naked at gunpoint, took pictures of them and defiled them in turns.
He allegedly warned them not to say a word to their parents else there will be war between Nwaring where the suspect comes from and Mbanayili the victim’s community.
The families of the victims have expressed fears and worry that the case is delaying.
The Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service, has confirmed the incident in an interview with Radio Ghana in Tamale.
The Northern Regional Head of DOVVSU, DSP Emmanuel Holortu who assured that police has not abandoned the case, explaining they however needed to conduct further investigation into the matter and that requires time.
DSP Holortu revealed that the suspect has been charged on three counts of threat of harm, defilement and indecent assault.
He added that the suspect has been granted bail and will soon be arraigned.
