Member of Parliament (MP) for Nanton constituency in the Northern Region, Mr. Mohamed Hardi Tuferu, has bemoaned the practice where successive governments leave projects started by their predecessors to go waste.
According to him, his ‘heart bleeds’ anytime he drives around and sees projects initiated with state funds by one government or another going waste due to political expediency.
Speaking in an interview with Today after he made a statement on the floor of Parliament about Ghana’s housing deficit, he said hundreds of public and civil servants were struggling to cope with accommodation whilst thousands of uncompleted housing projects across the country were being left to rot.
“I find it hard to fathom why projects started by other administrations with the taxpayer’s money can be left to rot away because the projects were not their initiatives,” the Nanton lawmaker lamented.
He, therefore, called on the current administration to complete all the affordable housing projects to bridge the housing deficit gap.
Mr. Tuferu also cautioned state institutions to ensure that enough funds are secured before embarking on any intended projects.
“This is the only surest way to ensure that projects like school blocks, hospitals, roads, housing and other development projects could be completed on schedule as well as to avoid an additional cost,” he reiterated.
