Mr. George Boakye, former Member of Parliament (MP) for Asunafo South Constituency, has said that the reason for his implication in the recent visa fraud scandal wasn’t his fault.
According to the former Asunafo South Legislator, his 37 year old daughter allegedly tricked him into taking her with him to London on the pretext of going to see her uncle only to later abscond once they reached their London destination.
Mr. Boakye confessed that although he was well aware that not reporting her disappearance to the proper authorities was irresponsible of him, he said he did not do so because he was afraid his daughter would face incarceration.
Out of four MPs accused by the UK High Commissioner to Ghana. Mr. Boakye is the only one who is not a sitting Member of Parliament.
Speaking to Citi News in an interview on Thursday, April 27th, Mr. Boakye related that he “lost contact” with his daughter after she aleggedly left the residence where she had gone to visit her uncle.
“She managed to trick me into believing that she wanted to go and visit her uncle. Not knowing, she had a prior arrangement with her boyfriend with the promise that the boyfriend would be able to regularize her stay for her.
At the time that I was coming and she hadn’t come, I left a message and a return ticket with the hope that it should be given to my daughter anytime she returns, and I left.
To be very honest, I lost contact with her because she knew me to be a very strict person and for that matter if I got the information that she was there with a man, she wouldn’t find it lightly.”
