Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona East Constituency in the Central Region, Mrs. Queenstar Pokuah Sawyerr, on Saturday July 1, 2017, invited a large number of teachers among whom were best performing teachers in Agona East to join her mark her birthday at her hometown.
The activity has been an annual affair since the MP entered into Agona East politics.
Addressing the gathering, Mrs. Sawyerr, popularly called Obaatanpa, recounted the number of times she had invited them for such events.
The MP explained that she could not leave the teachers behind and concentrate on only Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates who over the years had received assistance in the form of educational materials and feeding during their examination.
Mrs. Sawyerr noted that the original idea for selecting and awarding one best teacher for each region annually was not fair to the teachers.
This, according to the MP informed her decision to bring it down to the district level to award as many teachers as possible to serve as a source of motivation for them to work harder.
He was full of praise for the teachers and observed that, had it not been for the change in government, the best teacher in Agona East this year would have been awarded a salon car as prize to drive home.
For their prize this year, the teachers received smart phones and electronic pressing irons.
The grand occasion was graced by Agona East Traditional Rulers led by Nana Bishop Osabarima Boapea IV.
Present were the Deputy Central Regional Women’s Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Ms. Faustina Lamptey, the Deputy Central Regional Youth Organiser, Mr. Eric Dadson as well as the Deputy Regional Communications Officer, Hon. Kweku Arko Yeboah.
Others were Ms. Esther Ayensu, Regional Coordinator – Ghana School Feeding Program (CR) and convener of Friends of Obaatanpa Ghana.
