Ghanaian mothers deserve to be celebrated for their “sacrifices, commitment, tolerance, and love”, the Women’s Wing of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said in its message on Mother’s Day, today Sunday May 14.
In a statement signed by Deputy National Women’s Organiser Diana Karikari, the group said: “On this memorable Mother’s Day, we salute all mothers for making the world a place of comfort and love; we also salute all single mothers who have played the role of both mother and father in the lives of children whose love has really stood the test of time to provide their children with the very best in life and to mothers who are not biological mothers but have played tremendous roles in shaping the lives of young ones in the society, a sacrifice that deserves appreciation.”
It added: “Mothers are in a special class. The NPP Women’s Wing is proud to say that today the Ghanaian mother is more assertive and understands her rights.”
Mothers, the Women’s Wing said, are the “heartbeat” of the home, using the occasion to also wish First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Second Lady Samira Bawumia, former First Lady Mrs Theresa Kufuor, former Second Lady Mrs Hajia Alima Mahama, outgoing Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood, and incoming Chief Justice Ms Justice Sophia Akuffo a happy Mother’s Day.

2017 Mother’s Day message from NPP Women’s Wing…NPP salutes Ghanaian mothers on Mother’s Day
Mothers in Ghana, we the Women’s Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), seize this special occasion that respect you for all the sacrifices, commitment, tolerance and love you have bestowed on children and families in the country.
It’s fitting that at least once a year, we find time to celebrate and appreciate our mothers, living and departed, everywhere in the world. It’s worth noting that a good mother makes her child a star and indeed, a good mother makes a father a hero.
Mothers are in a special class. The NPP Women’s Wing is proud to say that today the Ghanaian mother is more assertive and understands her rights.
“On this memorable Mother’s Day, we salute all mothers for making the world a place of comfort and love; we also salute all single mothers who have played the role of both mother and father in the lives of children whose love has really stood the test of time to provide their children with the very best in life and to mothers who are not biological mothers but have played tremendous roles in shaping the lives of young ones in the society, a sacrifice that deserves appreciation.
Mothers have demonstrated warmth, compassion, affection and developed a strong bond that can never be compared, from picking shea nuts and firewood at ungodly hours, fetching water, farming, clearing sores, selling their last cloth to feed their children and educating them to the various positions across the land, indeed the Ghanaian mother through thick and thin has nurtured families at great expense to herself.
The NPP Women’s Wing humbly wishes the First Lady, Her Excellency Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Second Lady Samira Bawumia, former First Lady Mrs Theresa Kufuor, former Second Lady Mrs Hajia Alima Mahama, outgoing Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood, and incoming Chief Justice Ms Justice Sophia Akuffo. We congratulate her on her new appointment and all other First Ladies a happy Mother’s Day.
Ghanaians, let’s say ‘ayekoo’ to mothers because they are the heartbeat of the home. NPP Women’s Wing wishes all mothers everywhere, both biological and adopted, ayekoo and a happy Mother’s Day.
Long live all mothers
Long live NPP
Long live Ghana

Diana Karikari
NPP Deputy National Women Organiser
