Ghana’s former High Commissioner to the UK, Victory Smith has said there is the need for the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to changes its General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia because “he has been there long enough.”
Mr Smith, who lost his bid for the Abuakwa North seat in the 2016 general elections also said there must be a total overhaul of the national executive body of the NDC.
According to him, the party needs “die-hard selfless people” to take over leadership.
“We should change the whole guard,” he told Accra-based Citi FM. “We should start with some die-hard selfless people,” he said, adding: “I think he [Asiedu Nketia] has been there long enough. We should just clean the stables.”
As far as the flag bearer slot of the party is concerned, Mr Smith said: “If we want to be the ones in the driving seat in 2020, our best bet is the one we put out there already. He [former President John Mahama] did so well but there were some hiccups and that probably led to us losing the elections.”
