The Ministry of Health says it will work towards getting funds to settle the indebtedness of the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital to avoid early discharge of patients receiving treatment.
Authorities at the Hospital revealed Monday that the facility owes creditors to the tune of 3 million cedis, as funds from government have delayed.
The situation, they explained, was affecting the running of the Hospital, noting feeding of patients has become a burden for them.
They thus served notice of their intention to send home more than 100 patients.
But Public Relations Officer of the ministry of health Robert Kudjo told 3FM Monday that government was working to address the financial challenges of the Hospital.
“I think these are funding challenges raised within the year but it’s being addressed. Some funds were raised some months back but I guess it was inadequate.
“We will work around it to ensure the situation doesn’t get to that stage [of sending patients home]. I can’t say specifically but as and when the funds are released, the hospital will receive it”
