Kwesi Appiah’s move sparked arguments and mixed reactions on various media platforms with some linking it with the longstanding conflict between coach Appiah and the father of the duo Abedi Pele.
Loyalists of the Ayew brothers have argued that it is the extension of the 1992 rift between their father and coach Appiah, claiming the Black Stars boss is victimizing Abedi Pele’s children.
On the other hand, Kwesi Appiah’s supporters rather questioned the Ayew brothers’ possible justification for exempting themselves from a major clash.
It can be recalled that the Ayew brothers, as well as Captain Asamoah Gyan, were absent during the clash in Brazzaville which restored the hope of Ghanaians.
Bearing in mind the inevitable mixed reactions, President of the Ghana Football Association Kwesi Nyantakyi has called on Ghanaian football supporters not to be emotional over the exclusion of the Ayew brothers.
Nyantakyi has defended Coach Kwesi Appiah as well as the Ayew Brother’s Snub. He has called on the Black Stars coach to exclude the players from future Black Stars squads accusing the Ayew brothers of unprofessionalism and a lack of commitment.
He has also called on Ghanaians to give the Black Stars coach a free room to operate as the decision to invite players for any assignment solely rests with the head coach.
But Former Ghanaian international, Solar Ayew believes Kwesi Appiah has done what many Ghanaian football fans want by dropping Jordan Ayew and Dede Ayew from his 26 man squad.
Solar Ayew who is an uncle to the Ayew brothers said it was the criticism after the Congo game that led to the omission of the Ayew brothers from the squad.
He said that after the Black Stars failed to secure all the three points against Congo at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, many Ghanaian football fans called on Kwesi Appiah not to include Andre and his brother to the team against after they failed to join the team Brazzaville in the return match.
The Ayew family, he said, will continue to serve Ghana regardless of all the negativities.
