Miss United Nations International pageant held in Kingston, Jamaica, over the weekend has crowned Ghanaian beauty queen, Rebecca Asamoah, as the first runner-up.
The 25-year-old Ghanaian beauty queen arrived at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
She was welcomed by her parents, colleagues in other pageantries, including Miss Tourism and Miss Face of Nation.
On her arrival, she said: “this crown comes with a lot of projects, and I’m going to work towards that.”
According to the 2016 Miss Africa, “the most important thing is touching lives, changing someone’s live and making someone believe that anything under the sun is possible.”
“… I’m going to embark on projects in areas including education, health and environment…I believe this is a collective responsibility and I can’t do everything on my own, but with the aid of other pageantry winners I believe I can do something remarkable for the country Ghana,” she averred.
Rebecca, who is also Dental Hygienist, beat 80 contestants from different countries to come close to winning the ultimate crown which went to Olga Makhlevskaia from Russia.
Mexican queen, Irais Carbajal, also took the second runner-up position at the night.
Its Rebecca’s third win in three years after she was earlier crowned Miss Ghana 2015 runner-up and winner of Miss Africa Continent in South Africa.
She is the first Ghanaian queen to represent her country on the Miss United Nations stage.
Russia was the winner, while Ghana and Mexico took the first and second runner-up positions respectively.
Miss United Nations is a humanitarian pageant which helps to better the lives of persons around the world.
It identifies and showcases world’s best tourism cause ambassadors; those who have the skills, talents and personalities best suited to promote their respective countries in furtherance of tourism, international goodwill and cultural harmony.
Apart from a strong emphasis on goodwill tourism protection programmes and destinations promotion, the pageant also supports environmental protection via strategised programmes.
Rebecca remains one of Ghana’s successful queens. She does not disappoint when she mounts the stage.
