Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Ms. Freda Akosua O. Prempeh, has cautioned officers at the Rent Control Department (RCD) to desist from extorting money from clients who patronise their services.
The deputy minister, who doubles as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tano North constituency in the Brong Ahafo Region, in an exclusive interview with Today, gave the caution.
According to the Tano North lawmaker, there were dozens of complaints that have been reported to her by tenants.
She alleged that some officers at the various Rent Control offices across the country do extort money from tenants and landlords before hearing their cases while others also engage in bribery and corruption.
“My office has started doing some investigations into these complaints and will soon fish the culprits out,” she hinted.
“Let me assure you that we will never shield anyone who is found culpable. We will make sure that the laws of the land deal squarely with whoever is involved.
“Those who engage in this callous act should stop because I will soon zoom in on them like ‘Anas,” she warned.
