The worker was asked to go home after he misappropriated an amount of GHC 1.50
Management of the Metro Mass Transit (MMT), have allegedly sacked an employee of the company over GHC 1.50 pesewas.
The Local Union Chairman of Metro Mass Transit, Emmanual Awatey revealed this to Adom News when the Deputy Minister of Transport, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover toured the company Tuesday.
According to him, the worker was asked to go home after it was discovered that he has misappropriated an amount of GHC 1.50 and have still not been asked to return to work, a situation he describes as very worrying.
This move of management, Mr Awatey said was a shocking one as according to him misappropriation of funds by management had left the company in debt and hence could not understand why a worker could be asked to go home over GHC 1.50.
“Management of the company have spent resources of the company on employee fitness officer in the company when there are more pressing things that the money can be used for like constructing a new sub standard pit for servicing of cars.
“And they rather had the guts to sack a worker over common one cedi. As am speaking now, the worker is still at home because he misappropriated one cedi. It is just uncalled for and needs to be addressed immediately,” he stated.
Mr Awatey also noted that most of their buses have been grounded following the failure of the management to account for some monies meant for the maintenance of the buses and their upkeep as a whole.
This concern, the Deputy Transport Minister, Titus-Glover assured would be tackled at the boardroom level.
