Rapper Medikal has disclosed he expected to win “big” at this year’s Ghana Music Awards.
He was nominated in seven categories (Afropop Song of the Year, Hiphop Song of the Year, Hiplife/HipHop Artiste of the Year, Best Rapper of the Year, Best Collaboration of the Year, Best New Artiste of the Year and Artiste of the Year) but went home empty-handed.
The ‘Gimme Vibe‘ act told Delay, he didn’t expect to win all the categories he was nominated in, but hoped to win a number of them.
“To be frank, I was expecting to win big. I don’t know how many I thought I would win but we were going for the win. It didn’t go that way.”
Nii Ayi Tagoe, a member of the GMA board disclosed days after the event that the rapper received only 13 votes in the ‘New Artiste of the Year’ category.
“The people who made noise for these artistes on social media didn’t really go out to vote. Medikal had 13 votes from the general public for the New Artiste of the Year category.”
