The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has embarked on a massive clean-up exercise to ride the city of filth.
The exercise forms part of preparations towards the grand final funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwah Ampem II.
It saw massive participation of residents in areas like Adum Pampaso, Bantama high street, Suame roundabout, Airport roundabout, Manhyia palace among others.
The exercise was deemed appropriate since thousands of people are expected to attend the final funeral rites, Kumasi Mayor, Osei Assibey Antwi, has remarked.
“As you are all aware, Asanteman has lost a Queenmother and the programme has started and we all know the funeral is going to bring countless number of people into this region and it has been our tradition, it has been the tradition of Asantes, anytime an activity is going to take place we do massive cleanup”.
He stressed that the exercise will not end there but would be sustained to bring back the city’s lost glory.
“We also want the people to be in tune with the cleaning and greening of the city” he said.
Meanwhile, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly is collaborating with the Electricity Company of Ghana to ensure constant supply of power to the metropolis as part of security measures being put in place.
Meanwhile, several police personnel and city guards have been deployed to vantage points to assist visitors to find their way within the metropolis.
