The 35-year-old has shown his determination to finish what he started at Old Trafford after months of gruelling rehabilitation following knee ligament damage.
Ibrahimovic who was released by the club in June after his season was ended prematurely by a knee injury, is expected to be fit again in December.
Zlatan suffered a knee ligament injury in April, an incident that brought his first season in the Premier League to a premature end.
The 35-year-old underwent scans in Manchester after sustaining the injury during United’s Europa League quarterfinal victory against Anderlecht at Old Trafford.
It was reported that the Swedish striker suffered damage to his cruciate ligament. The striker was to undergo a surgery followed by a program of rehabilitation. Ibrahimovic was not expected to return to action this year.

Man United had decided not to exercise their option to extend the deal with the 35-year-old, but after undergoing surgery in the United States, Ibrahimovic could now return before the end of 2017.
After releasing Ibrahimovic in June, Mourinho and United executive vice chairman Ed Woodward continued to make the club’s training and medical facilities at their Carrington base available to the striker.
Ibrahimovic, who initially joined the Red Devils on free transfer in July 2016, had been recuperating at United’s training ground after the knee surgery. The striker has now bounced back and is ready to go on.
In a short statement, the club wrote: ‘Manchester United is delighted to announce that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will continue his journey with the club and has signed a one-year contract. He will wear the No 10 shirt.’
The 35-year-old was filmed in a short video posted on the club’s Twitter page putting on the United shirt complete with his new No 10 as he walked menacingly past a punching bag.
