Chief Policy Analyst at the Ghana Institute of Public Policy Options (GIPPO) Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby has called for strict punitive action against all culprits found in the sale of contaminated fuel by the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST).
He was worried how more than two decades of “unblemished” record could easily be torn apart in the sale of the off-spec fuel in the country.
“We should get to the bottom of this mess and ensure that culprits who are found be dealt with,” he said on TV3’s Hot Issues on Saturday.
The former Chief Executive Officer of the Volta River Authority suggested that the management of BOST should be outsourced to ensure high accountability.
“I don’t think why we won’t give the management of BOST to an external company.”
Issues surrounding the sale of the 5 million litres of off-spec fuel have led the Minister of Energy to set up a committee chaired by Dr Lawrence Darkwa, a Senior Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, to look into the issues.
But the Managing Director of BOST, Alfred Obeng Boateng, has since been exonerated.
Dr Wereko-Brobby said the committee chairman should “revise the terms of reference”.
“We are interested in ensuring that things that were not happening [must stop].”
