It was a barbaric and gruesome scene in a neigbourhood at Asankragua Newtown in the Western Region in the early hours of Sunday, December 10, when a man slashed his pregnant girlfriend to death with a machete and also tried to take his own life with the weapon but failed.
Although the exact cause of the murder and suicide attempt has not been ascertained, residents close to the murder scene revealed that 21-year-old Felix Kwabena, a ‘galamsey’ operator had a quarrel with his girlfriend, Abena Nafisatu who worked as a chop bar attendant in Newtown, over who is responsible for her four-month-old pregnancy the previous night.

According to the neighbours, Nafisatu is holding Felix Kwabena responsible for her pregnancy but he denied being responsible, claiming that she has been seeing other guys in the town who always called her on phone, Royal FM‘s Michael Assan told 3news.com. It is suspected that the quarrel may have continued to the next day which possibly led to Felix killing Nafisatu and attempting to take his own life too.
The neighbours said they heard shrilling cries of help from Felix’s room at about 5:40 am on Sunday but before they could break into the room, the deed has already been done! Nafisatu’s lifeless body was found with several fatal machete cuts – one on her forehead, 3 on the neck and one on her tummy.

Meanwile, the Asankragua District Police command has already commenced investigations into the ugly incident.
