General Overseer of the Glorious Way Chapel, Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah says the suspects accused of killing Captain Maxwell Mahama were possessed by the devil at that time.
Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah, believes nothing can justify the lynching of Captain Mahama even though residents of Denkyira-Obuasi have been experiencing frequent armed robbery incidents perpetrated in the area.
“This issue is not spiritual and so I find hard to understand why our politicians should politicize it. It is just below the belt. It is important that we pray for the deceased because I think the people who committed such heinous crime were just possessed by the devil” he said on Accra-based Okay FM.
Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah was commenting on the killing of the junior military officer by residents of Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region. Captain Mahama was beaten and stoned to death on May 29 by some residents of Denkyira –Obuasi who accused him of being an armed robber.
His lifeless body was stripped and set ablaze.
Captain Mahama from the Fifth Infantry Brigade in Accra was the Commander of a military detachment combating illegal mining (galamsey) in the Region.
Meanwhile, thirty-four suspects including two lactating mothers have been remanded by an Accra Central Magistrate Court.
They have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder and murder and will reappear in court on June 21, 2017.
Reverend Owusu Bempah said though some people have been arrested in connection to the murder, the Police should not rule out any other evidential factors that have cropped up in relation to the issue.
The controversial man of God, however, denied ever blaming Former President John Mahama over the death of the Captain.
Rev Bempah is alleged to have indicated in a radio interview that Captain Mahama’s murder happened because he had been used for ritual purposes by former President John Mahama – a remark the man of God has flatly denied uttering.
But reacting to the issue, he said “I never said John Mahama used Captain Mahama for rituals, the tape of the interview is with Okay FM, where I granted the interview, everybody in the country can go and pick it up to listen to ascertain whether or not I made those comments” he said.
