Youth of Savelugu on Monday took to the streets of the Northern Region town to express their dissatisfaction at the election of Hajia Ayishetu Seidu as Municipal Chief Executive.
Hajia Ayishetu Seidu, an accountant at the Yendi Municipal Hospital, was confirmed on May 13 after garnering 50 out of 64 votes.
She has not been able to occupy her office since her election as a result of security concerns.
The youth carried placards and machetes on Monday to call for her immediate withdrawal.
They claim she bribed her way to winning the Savelugu-Nanton Municipal Assembly’s confirmation.
The youth also claimed she is not a registered voter in the Assembly and cannot rise to become an MCE.
Leader of the demonstrators Abdul Karim Zakari said she must not be allowed to occupy her office.
Some of the placards the demonstrators wielded read ‘We do not want self-introductory MCE’, ‘We will not accept her’ and ‘Bawumia, listen to our cry’.
Obviously, the demonstrators want the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to intervene to get the new MCE out.
