Advocate for Quiet Retreat and Single Parent’s Support Network (SPN), Esther Emefa Gadze, although has said, the low patronage of Father’s Day celebration in the country is unfair, she however attributed the problem to disunity between fathers and mothers in most homes.
Speaking on Class FM in Accra yesterday, she said most fathers are not celebrated because of the kind of treatment they give to their families.
According to her, Father’s Day should not be a “wholesale” celebration for fathers but for only responsible ones.
Madam Esther suggested that families and society should endeavour to groom and nurture the male child right from infancy.
“Fathers should strive to be part of the upbringing of their children, show them love and care in other to instill responsibility in the. This will leave positive images in the minds of the children and make it easier for them to celebrate their fathers”, she said.
For his part, Relationship Counsellor and life coach Amos Blebi who was also on the programme commended some media houses including Eezy FM which helped to change the face of the celebration this year.
But for Programmes Manager at Eezy FM, Mr. Ransford Amon-Pebi, having fun with mothers is more enjoyable than having it with fathers.
Sitsofe Anku, also a Producer at Eezy FM said, Father’s Day “is just like a normal day in the life of a good father”.
George Nkunu, a social media and online officer, however, bemoaned the unfairness of the hype given to mothers as compared to fathers.
He stated that men just as women do so much in taking care of the family.
