The Asante Akyem Central Municipal Assembly members have kicked out the president’s nominee for the post of Municipal Chief Executive, Mr George Kyei Baffour, a local government expert at a meeting at Konongo.
While 18 of the assembly members voted NO, 17 others voted YES, representing 47.22 per cent of the total number of the members present at the meeting.
A total of 36 members voted with one rejected ballot.
This, therefore, makes it impossible for Mr Kyei Baffour to be given a second straight chance of voting unless President Akufo-Addo re-nominates him for a fresh start.
The confirmation which was supervised by the staff of the Electoral Commission was witnessed by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Simon Osei-Mensah, his Deputy, Madam Elizabeth Agyemang and other dignitaries such as the endorsed DCE’s for Asante Akyem North, Asante Akyem South, Ahafo Ano North and some Ashanti regional council of elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Madam Agyemang after the voting expressed shock at the outcome of the voting and urged the assembly members to unite and give him the nod when re-nominated by the President.
She reminded the members to desist from seeking their personal interest and rather think of the party and the entire nation and put all differences behind them and give their support to the nominee.
The Chief of Dwease, Nana Owusu Bempah, said the more the members continue to reject the President’s nominee, the more they push the development of the area away, so he urged them to reconsider their decision and give their massive support to the nominee when re-nominated.
Background
The nominee, Mr Kyei Baffour who is a local government expert served as a Presiding Member for the Asante Akyem Central Municipality for six years during former President John Agyekum Kufour’s era.
