The Lebanese accused of raping his 19-year-old house help, Haddad Rabih, has finally been granted bail.
The bail was granted by an Accra Central District Court on Monday, following a strong case made by the defense counsel as regards the health of the suspect.
The bail was granted at GH¢500,000 with sureties including an imposition of a travel ban on the accused.
“We are prepared to meet the bail conditions and we are happy with the bail conditions,” said lead counsel for the Lebanese Ralph Opoku Adusei.
“As far as we are concerned, we are not looking at the bail.
“We want to prove to the whole world that the man is innocent.”
Haddad Rabih did not appear in court in person, Media General’s Komla Klutse reported on 3FM.
But his wife did, he added.
She was happy with the outcome of the bail application.
But lawyer of the victim, Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, who is also the former Attorney General, was unhappy with the finding by the police, who claim there is no semen found in later tests conducted despite an earlier test proving otherwise.
“If the police say there is no human semen, [then] there is a lot of explanation to do.”
