It’s actually no news anymore that a man in his early thirties was stabbed to death on the charging grounds of the popular University of Ghana Commonwealth hall of residence on Saturday, 9th December, 2017. It is however, some of the ensuing developments that trail behind the gruesome and unfortunate Commonwealth Hall murder that you may not be well aware of.

As expected, the suspected killer, 18-year-old George Osei Mennsah was immediately arrested after the incident and kept in police custody. He has also been arraigned before court for allegedly stabbing 32-year-old Martin Tweneboah Kodua to death in the course of an argument.
The case was however, adjourned to Tuesday, 9th January, 2018 after the first hearing on Tuesday, December 12, 2017. This according to the Presiding Judge His Lordship, Richard Delali Anku, is to allow the police enough time to conclude investigations and come up with substantial evidences on the matter.
The body of the deceased which has since been deposited at the 37 Military Hospital morgue is expected undergo and autopsy whose report will also be submitted to the police and the Attorney General (AG) to assist in the ongoing investigations.
In addition to these, the AG will also be furnished with the suspect;s statement and docket for onward advice on the matter. It is on the completion of all these that hearing on the Commonwealth Hall murder case will be resumed.
In a statement released by the Old Vandals Association following the stabbing incident, the deceased was expressly identifies as an Old Vandal while his attacker was merely referred to as an intruder.
Substantiating this stance, the University of Ghana management in their own statement described the incident as “an isolated case” involving no current student of the university. The UG Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Owusu Oduro also claimed that 18-year-old George has never been a student of the school.
