The recommendations of the Kwesi Botchwey-led committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will not be accepted until they are clearly established as findings of fact, General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia has stated.
“There are times where you have a committee whose recommendations may not flow from the findings of fact,” he said, “so we will look at that one – whether the recommendations are flowing from the findings of fact.”
The 13-member committee presented a 455-page report to the party on Monday after a five-month nationwide tour to find reasons why the party lost to the New Patriotic Party in the December 7, 2016 elections.
Among its recommendations is a peacebuilding tour across all 275 constituencies for some key members of the party. It also wants a strengthening of the grassroots.
Speaking in an interview with TV3’s Paa Kwesi Asare on Monday, Mr Asiedu Nketia said the recommendations will be subjected to strict proof before implementation.
“If [they are facts], we will come out to clearly accept the recommendation for implementation and then lay out the strategies for implementing the recommendations.”
NDC wants to reclaim power in 2020 and chairman of the review committee says: “We have produced a report that actually does the job of identifying all the factors – weighing them carefully, categorizing them, synthesizing them and understanding the real dynamics of each and every constituency”.
“I think it is a good thing for the party,” Professor Botchwey added.
